Structure of primary data table
in the Great Lakes Fish Stocking Database

A single record or observation (unique stock_id) in the database represents a single stocking event of a unique group or number of fish at a particular site on a particular day. The GLFSD includes all stocking events that contribute to Great Lakes fish populations. This comprises stocking in all tributaries to the Great Lakes upstream to the first barrier that prevents fish passage from the lake. An exception to this is when fish are stocked above a barrier and are intended and observed to move downstream to the Great Lakes. The database is intended to provide raw data on stocking events from which the user outside this web site can perform summaries or analyses. Selection of data is accomplished through Exact Search and Range Search query pages, which provide options for viewing and downloading data.
